Liverpool 2 - Paris_St.Germain 1

A close game, with a repeat of the Season 1 scoreline ..

We went a goal behind just before half time, but a strong Pogba header saw us equalise immediately.

Izconil came off the bench and showed why he deserved to start with a cheeky finish with 3 left on the clock and we then shut up shop.

Despite not scoring, Neymar was heavily involved all over the pitch and was MOM.

PSG looked far stronger than last year and Matt's youth policy appears to be starting to come to fruition - unlucky!

Legia_Warsaw 1 - Ludogorets_Razgrad 0

A very dull introduction to the Warsaw fans of the new look team - but a 1-0 win with a clean sheet was a solid enough start.

Raingod accepted that the set up was too cautious and he will correct this for the midweek cup game.

Youngster Kaluzinski was MOM, a reaction to being dropped in one of the PS Cup matches - despite being only 18, he looks a real star in the making (cue: Matt Harrison £200m offer for him which will be flatly rejected!)

Still no goals for Mbappe - has Matt sent his twin brother instead ???

Flora_Tallinn 0 - 1 Galatasaray_SK

Galatasary were lucky to come away with any points and absolutely lucky to get 3.  Sanchez scored the only goal of the match from the spot.  Tallinn out played us overall but our defense did well.  Further up the pitch, midfield looked disjointed and out of sync leaving our forwards starved for service.  We'll have to make some adjustments heading into the cup fixture.

SS_Lazio 4 - 1 Olympique_Marseille

Rough start for Marseille as we get dominated by a different Daz managed club.  Score line could have been much worse as half our defense saw red, dropping us to 9 with over 30 minutes left to play.  Surprisingly we managed to pull a goal back with the familiar combination of Strootman and Reus putting together a moment for us.  We'll have to forget this one and move on, there will obviously be some changes to the lineup due to suspensions.

LAZIO 4-1 Marseille

I was surprised by the scoreline as I expected it to be much closer, but having to play with 9 men didn't help them.  I'm sure Marseille will be challengers this season and probably not the best team to play in the first game of the season for them.

Manchester United 3-4 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

An entertaining game for the neutrals but not quite so easy watching for me.  They were leading for a while but we were always the better attacking force and got the win we wanted.

Valencia 3 - 0 Villarreal

Delighted with such a convincing win to get the season off an running. In truth we made hard work of it after Villarreal had a player sent off after 13 minutes. New striker Innocenti is proving to be somewhat of a steal off the transfer market after adding to his good pre-season haul with two goals in this game, one a bicycle kick and the other a scissor kick. Seems like he doesn't like to score the easy goal however as long as they keep going in we don't mind. Striking partner Gotze got the other goal. The main disappointment was that despite all of the possession we only had six shots on target although this does show we're being clinical. Hopefully we can take this in to the next game and push to be competitive for the title.

Liverpool 2 v 1 PSG

Matt Harrison was delighted despite the defeat, as his team of youngsters went toe-to-toe away to one of the pre-season favourites and were unlucky to leave with nothing. He went with a starting XI with an average age of 17 years and 8 months as he continues to build for the future, and on Saturday's showing the future could indeed be bright. Idirss Fares continued to take on the responsibility of leading the line in Mbappe's absence and got another goal, while 16 year old Rayan Cheriki had a promising debut. However, the player Matt Harrison chose to hype....erm, I mean, discuss in the post-match conference.... was Daniel-Paul Bikouta, who the fans are already calling "The Beast".
